Michelle Martin is an author, educator and policy specialist. Her areas of research include ethnic conflict and forced migration, diaspora (refugees and migrants), human rights and how social media is used for social justice advocacy and the dissemination of propaganda (also known as "fake news"). On a more personal note, she is interested in advancing women and wellbeing, and removing barriers that make the lives of women more difficult.

While it may seem like research in the areas of conflict and women are worlds away, they really aren't—at least not the way Dr. Martin sees them. Policy impacts people. What links these disparate areas together is a concern for people, particularly people who are vulnerable and hurting, people who have experienced trauma and people who have been subject to human rights violations.

Dr. Martin blogs in two areas: politics/current affairs (work) and women and wellbeing (personal). She is currently working on two books: one about the Central American migrant family separations (work) and Aging Naked (personal).
